To encourage recreational yachting activities, the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) held a launch presentation of Yacht in Taiwan, the information platform for yachting activities, today (7th), showcasing 8 highlighted features of this platform: single member account, real-time berth information, online berth application, reporting form before leaving port, classic recommended itineraries, driving class sign-up management, tour packages, and online event registration.
According to MPB Director-General Yeh Hsieh-Lung, when the MPB was established 10 years ago, only 1,019 people had a yacht driving license, but now the number has exceeded 20,000, with 21,456 people licensed to drive a yacht. That’s a 21-fold increase, and the number is still growing steadily. The number of yachts has also increased 6 times from 200 to 1,212 (as of January 31, 2022). Yachting has become an important channel for people to get closer to the sea, and is gradually integrating into the life of people in Taiwan. Therefore, to serve yacht enthusiasts, Yacht in Taiwan, available online from today, is especially designed to satisfy their needs from their perspective. The platform, a single-portal website, has integrated both onshore and offshore travel information, providing one-stop information services such as inbound and outbound access, berthing, replenishment, repair, hydroclimate, recreation, emergency response, and medical treatment for yacht users. In the past, we needed to report to the authorities before going to sea, arranged berthing in advance, devised travel itineraries, planned replenishment, among many other things. All of these procedures had to be completed individually. People who wanted to learn about yachting and receive travel information of surrounding areas also had to go through individual operators to be noted one by one.
Yacht in Taiwan has integrated the abovementioned services related to yachting into 8 highlighted features, offering a high-quality all-in-one service experience! Now, all it takes is one single member account to access real-time berthing information, online berthing application, and the reporting form before leaving port. It’s easy to stay up to date with seasonal tour recommendations, sign up for driving classes, browse tour packages by business operators, and register for events online. Access all the services of Yacht in Taiwan with one single account!
As noted by the yacht operators who attended the event, the MPB has consolidated resources to make it easier for the public to locate the services they need whether in terms of yacht driving experience, captain’s license or travel information. The threshold of “yacht leisure” has thus been lowered for more people who have never had this experience to easily engage in related activities. We are looking forward to the future development of this industry!
MPB Director-general, Yeh Hsieh-Lung, further suggested that, in the future, the MPB will continue to improve the features of Yacht in Taiwan, adding connections to the recreational vessel entry-exit application system of the Ocean Affairs Council to various MPB’s systems and to the LINE smart AI system. Features such as text messages notification services and updates on seasonal travel will also be included.
