The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) has canceled the 1st Seafarer Examination of 2020, originally to be held on March 14 to 15 this year (2020), in response to the COVID-19 outbreak (the examination sites were Hwa Hsia University of Technology in New Taipei City and Cheng Shiu University in Kaohsiung City).
The Executive Yuan announced on February 27 that the Central Epidemic Command Center has been upgraded to Level 1 authorization . Moreover, Kaohsiung City Government announced that all large indoor events held by its subordinate agencies will be mandatorily suspended starting from February 22. In response, the MPB has canceled examination this time to cooperate with the government’s overall preventive measures.
The MPB stated that 597 examinees would be affected on this occasion. Validity of such examinees’ registration qualifications will be automatically extended until the 2nd Seafarer Examination of 2020 (it has been announced that the registration period will start on April 16 and examination will take place on May 30 to 31), without need for further registration or payment. The MPB will issue full refunds to former examinees unwilling to participate in the 2nd Examination.
Examinees should pay attention to relevant updates on the MPB’s website (https://www.motcmpb.gov.tw/) and on the Seafarer Examination exclusive section (https://sdtportal.mtnet.gov.tw/MPBSDT/Portal/frame.htm), as to remain informed about latest news on the examination.
